A Unique Building in the Heart of Seoul: Seoul City Hall

There is a rather unusual building right in the heart of Seoul, and it is actually Seoul City Hall!

Seoul City Hall is, of course, where many administrative services for citizens are handled. But there are also several interesting spaces inside that are open to the public, so I’d like to introduce them to you.

As soon as you enter the building, the interior makes you feel refreshed. Looking up at the tall ceiling covered with lush green leaves instantly gives you a sense of freshness and relaxation.

Head down to B1, and you’ll find several exhibition spaces. One of them features media art that introduces different areas of Seoul, along with information such as the city’s population. Although the content is all about Seoul, it is presented through colorful and creative media art, making it much more fun to explore. It is also a great spot for taking photos.

There is also a kids’ lounge where children can play and take a break. If you’re interested in Seoul-themed souvenirs, there is a small shop selling various Seoul-related goods as well. And with plenty of seating areas throughout the space, it’s a great place to rest for a while if you get tired during your walking tour of Seoul.

Another Highlight of Seoul City Hall: The Sky Lounge

Now, here’s another highlight!

Go back up to the 1st floor and take the elevator located in the center of the building. Head up to the 8th floor, where you’ll find the Sky Lounge.

The Sky Lounge isn’t particularly high or spacious, but it is still a nice viewpoint where you can enjoy a view of Seoul from above. When I visited on a beautiful day, I was especially captivated by the bright blue sky.

There is also a café inside the Sky Lounge, making it a nice place to sit down and enjoy a coffee or tea while taking in the view. Since the café is operated by Seoul City Hall, the prices are quite affordable, too.

It was a little crowded when I visited, probably because it was during the school vacation period. There were also lines for the elevator both going up and coming back down, but thankfully, the lines moved pretty quickly.

So, if you happen to come across Seoul City Hall while walking around downtown Seoul, why not step inside? Take a break, explore the unique spaces, and enjoy a different side of Seoul that you might not expect to find inside a city government building!
