If you’re interested in fashion and craftsmanship, don’t miss this exhibition! Even better, admission is free, yet you can enjoy an exhibition of truly high quality.

Near Seoul’s hanok villages, you’ll find the Seoul Museum of Craft Art. Alongside its permanent exhibitions on Korean crafts, the museum hosts rotating special exhibitions. Until March 15, a special exhibition featuring the works of fashion designer Key Sook Geum, where fashion and craft come together, is on view.
From the moment you step into the lobby, you’re greeted by Key Sook Geum’s creations. Beaded forms shimmer beautifully, catching the light in a way that makes it hard to look away. The way the pieces sparkle and glow depending on the light is simply mesmerizing.
In the main exhibition hall, a white beaded dress immediately draws your attention. Each bead is carefully woven together, yet the overall form feels completely natural. The dress evokes a magical, Frozen-like atmosphere that inspires instant admiration.
Beyond that, you’ll see beaded dresses in a variety of shapes and colors. It’s hard to imagine whether such dresses could actually be worn, but through video footage, you learn that a special dress was once created for an Olympic flag bearer.
In an interview, the designer explained that she wanted to express wind and light through the gentle movement and sparkle of the beads.
In another gallery, you can see garments inspired by traditional Korean clothing. Watching how wire twists and beads come together to form these outfits is fascinating from start to finish.
The artist’s drawings left a particularly strong impression. Seeing such detailed sketches made it clear that meticulous planning must come first for such refined works to emerge. It really makes you realize—nothing comes easily.
The artist herself mentioned that while twisting wire and threading beads, she often wondered why she was doing this at all. But once again, meaningful work never happens without effort.
These garments, designed using unique methods and unconventional materials, leave a lasting impression. The exhibition runs until March 15, so I highly recommend stopping by if you have the chance.
